Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) in NSW
Specialised Substitute Residential Care, or SSRC, describes certain arrangements in which a child or young person receives care outside their usual home for respite, behaviour support or NDIS-funded support.
How SSRC is provided
Support Foundation liaises and collaborates with registered providers to offer SSRC in NSW. Families can choose any appropriately registered provider.
Care centred on the child’s safety and wellbeing
Where an SSRC arrangement is accepted, planning should consider the child’s views, routines, communication preferences, health needs, family relationships and support requirements. Families and relevant professionals should understand who is responsible for care, how concerns can be raised and how the arrangement will be reviewed.
Enquiries and assessment
Families and authorised referring professionals can make contact to discuss the child’s circumstances, proposed dates, funding, location and support needs. An enquiry does not guarantee a placement. Suitability, staffing, safeguarding requirements and capacity are confirmed before care is agreed.
