Therapeutic Support and Allied Health

The right therapeutic support can help a person build skills, communicate, participate in everyday life and work towards goals that matter to them. We help participants and families understand their support needs and connect with appropriately qualified professionals, subject to service availability and funding.

How we arrange therapy

Support Foundation does not deliver allied health services directly. Support Foundation liaises and collaborates with registered providers to offer these services. Participants can also choose any qualified provider.

Areas of support

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapists can assess daily activities and recommend strategies, equipment or changes to environments that support participation and independence. We liaise and collaborate with registered providers to offer occupational therapy.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists can assess movement and physical function and develop individual approaches to mobility and participation. We liaise and collaborate with registered providers to offer physiotherapy.

Speech therapy

Speech pathologists can support communication and, where within their professional scope, swallowing-related needs. We liaise and collaborate with registered providers to offer speech therapy.

Behaviour support

Positive behaviour support seeks to understand a person’s needs and environment and develop respectful, evidence-informed strategies that improve quality of life. Support Foundation is not registered to deliver specialist behaviour support. We can work with an existing behaviour support plan and help you connect with a registered specialist behaviour support provider.

Psychology and counselling

Qualified professionals may provide support relevant to emotional wellbeing, coping and participation. Funding and suitability depend on the person’s circumstances and applicable program rules. We can help you connect with a suitable provider.

How to enquire

Tell us which discipline you are seeking, the person’s goals, location, funding arrangements and any preferred practitioner. We will explain whether the service is available through one of the registered providers we collaborate with, and what the next step would be. Participants retain choice and control over their provider.
